Okay, not so much an update but additional information.We decided the proper width between the boards was a dog nose, specifically Batsy's. She can also get her tongue in between them pretty easily.
Especially when we're feeding her pepperoni to get a good picture.
What a great picture! That is the perfect width measuring tool.
