Up on the rooftop . . .

Another Friday activity was to get up on the roof and put up the Christmas lights. This year the boys joined me. Joey helped me a bit, Tim was just there to see if I really was paying attention. They did a great job and decided this was one job they'd definitely help me with again.

And, yes, it was VERY cold. The East wind is a-blowing. BRRRR!

Take Me To The (roller) Disco

I took the boys roller skating at Oaks Park this afternoon. We had a great time, the boys got some excellent bruises, and said they're ready to go back for some more. Next time will be a Saturday morning lesson time - then maybe Mr. Noodle Legs will be able to stay up and Joey will learn to fall (without bruising too much!)! I'm proud to say, I successfully stayed on two feet the entire time.

How Mom Cooks a Turkey, II

Here is Tim's version from 2005.

Mom takes the super blue car and goes to the turkey farm. She looks for the biggest, fattest, juiciest turkey. She pays for the turkey with special money. She pops the turkey into a bag and puts the bag in the back of the super blue car. She drives home really fast and the police stop her and giver her more special money. In the kitchen the turkey starts to gobble and then runs all around the house. I help my Mom catch the turkey by putting my super cape on. I catch the turkey and Mom helps me throw it in the oven and shut the door. Mom turns on the timer to "turkey o'clock" and when it beeps we take the turkey out. Sorry turkey, you are going to be eaten now. I eat all the bones and our black dog eats all the feathers. My favorite part about Thanksgiving is chasing the turkey.

Game Day

Since the boys didn't have school and I didn't have to work, we spent most of the day playing games. We played Carcasone, Castle Merchants, and ended with Monster Island: the game of giant monster combat.

Tim won Monster Island battling with a giant butterfly, Wing-a-fly. He defeated Joey's Lava Turtle and my Hypno Toad. Nothing like pretending to be giant monsters on your day off.

The picture is after our Monster Island game. It's hard to see, but in the center of the table are the little plastic figures we use for the game (along with a tape measure and lots of dice.)

How Mom Cooks a Turkey, 2002

When Joey was in pre-school they published How Mom Cooks a Turkey every year. Here is Joey's when he was four.

Mom goes to a turkey store to get a fresh turkey. He say only one word to her and that's gobble, gobble, gobble. He costs three money. She sits him in the back seat and he doesn't wear a seat belt because he sits still, but he keeps saying gobble, gobble. So she puts a big bread in his mouth. Inside the house, she cuts him up and throws him in the oven because he is so big and she puts burritos on top. The turkey cooks for two minutes. Dad and Mom like to eat turkey because it tastes like monkey food. I just eat nothing and the go and play.

We'll post Tim's recipe (from 2004) in a couple days.
Yummmm, monkey food.

Don't take a sucker in the leaf pile!

Today the boys and I raked the leaves from our front yard tree (they're the best jumping-into-leaves around) and then the boys jumped into them. Then they jumped some more. Then we covered Tim up with leaves, helped him out and they jumped some more. The neighbor even paid the boys some pocket change to get her leaves into a big pile. I did have to tell Tim that no, we couldn't add their leaves to ours (I didn't want to bag up those leaves too!).
