Game Time

We've been playing lots of board games since school got out.  Flux (Space and Martian), Poo, Fairy Tale,  Carcassonne (pictured here), and Kingdom Builder.

Holly and the boys got Kingdom Builder for Steve on Father's Day.  It sets up quick and has some rules (and boards) that make each game slightly different.  It's been a big hit with all of us.

Tim's Grade School Promotion

Tim finished elementary school today!

The celebration started with a picnic lunch for the parents and students in the  garden.  Then the Grandparents Bullock and Denniston came for the promotion ceremony where there were some fabulous videos put together by several teachers.  The videos captured the 5th graders experience at Lewis.  They've grown so much since the start of the year and even more so since kindergarten!  

The afternoon was capped off with ice cream, cake and RECESS!  Now for Tim it's on to Sellwood Middle School.

Joe's Middle School Promotion

Joe's 8th grade promotion was today.  The Grandparents Denniston and Bullock joined Steve and I (and a lot of other folks) to celebrate this group of 170+ students. You can see Joe in the lower right hand photo (he's standing up on the far right side as his teacher calls the students' names to stand and be recognized).

Joe looked dashing.  The picture on the left was after he refused to smile for the traditional end of the year picture - I knew I'd get one eventually! 

We are quite proud of how hard he worked, even when it was challenging, and what he accomplished.  He's expecting a 4.0 and it's well deserved. 

Tomorrow he's off to the beach with his class.  Watch out Seaside, here they come! 

Math Top Five

We went to Joe's last portfolio night of middle school yesterday. This is where Joe walks us through examples of his work for each class, talking about what he did well, what he'd do differently next time, what he learned, etc.

When we looked around his homeroom (also his math class), we noticed his math teacher's top five lists. Turns out Joe's been on the top five list all year, and beat out his buddy, Stefan, at the start of the term to be first. Way to go, Joe!

Because this class was also for high school credit, Joe now has his first high school "A."
