Dufur in April

A couple weeks ago Holly and I took a day trip up the gorge and into Dufur.  This is the town my novel is set in and I want to know what it looks like in the months the novel takes place, how it changes as the town moves into summer.

In Dufur we got something to drink at We 3 Coffee and a local farmer came in and was talking with the owner.  I asked him if he'd tell me about farming and he wanted to know if I was a reporter.  He remained pretty suspicious after I assured him I wasn't.  Since I kept asking the stupidest questions about farming he finally believed me.  I got a couple good quotes and ideas from him, including, "You plant a seed in the ground and wait for it to grow."  There, that's all it takes to be a farmer.

Boomin' Beats

Tim (wearing the hat) performed with Boomin' Beats at his school's garden fund raiser.  The first song was very good and VERY LOUD.

Marching Band

Joe's marching band played at the Autism Walk-A-Thon at Oaks Park this morning.  It was a good turn out for the event and the Sellwood Band did a good job leading the walk-a-thon.

After the parade Joe went on a bunch of rides until his glasses were slightly bent and his stomach hurt from too much spinning.  He had a great time.

Rockin' Out

The boys' cousin, Jon, came over last week for dinner.  Uncle Steve even made a pot roast for him.  After playing on the Wii for a bit, then shooting some hoops, all of the boys sat down to play.  Tim's on the drums (with ear plugs in), Jon's on guitar, Joe's on bass and Steve's on his guitar.  It was fun to hear their jam session (and the neighbors didn't complain!).

Live! In Concert!!

We went to the Oregon Symphony yesterday where the Classical Mystery Tour played an assortment of Beatles songs.  It was a lot of fun, the voices were very Beatles-esque.

The opening was a medley played by the symphony.  I got rather clausterphobic about a minute into it.  Like I was in an elevator.  And couldn't get out.  And the music wouldn't stop.

Then the fake fab four came on stage and it got a lot better.  The music from Sgt. Peppers was pretty good, as well as Come Together.  We could have done without Goodnight, that last song on the White Album that no one over listens to.

At the end of the show the audience gave the band a standing ovation.  Really?  For a cover band?  Then again, that's what most of those people usually go to hear, really old cover tunes played by the Symphony.

Oh well, the Sgt. Pepper costumes were a nice touch, and the boys really enjoyed the music.
